An Industry Taking Off

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) — commonly known as drones — are transforming how work gets done. From aerial cinematography and real estate photography to surveying, mapping, public safety, and inspection, drones are now essential tools across dozens of industries.

The drone industry combines aviation, technology, and creative problem-solving. Pilots, technicians, mapping specialists, and drone software developers are all in growing demand as companies adopt unmanned systems for everyday operations.

This pathway introduces students to the technology, regulations, and skills needed to operate drones safely and professionally — and prepares them to pursue FAA certification and college pathways in aviation and UAS.

Manny Parras

Manny Parras is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and Career Technical Education instructor with the Orange County Department of Education's ACCESS program. He specializes in Drone Technology, Multimedia, 3D design, and hands-on career training that helps students connect classroom learning to real-world industry skills.

With a background in assistive technology engineering, aviation-related instruction, and project-based learning, Manny is passionate about preparing students for future career pathways in emerging technologies. His work focuses on innovation, student engagement, career readiness, teamwork, and helping students build the confidence to succeed beyond the classroom.
